Welcome summer! Celebrating with a backyard movie night!

Kicking off summer with a backyard movie night! We have finally finished another great year at school. Between all the rainy days we were lucky enough for one evening of relief. Oriental Trading Company had everything we needed to get started!

The Backdrop was a tropical leaf paper, this would be great for bulletin boards in the classroom, so bright and vibrant. A large tiki mask added some fun flair for our snack table. Some colorful leis helped brighten up the table.

For movie snacks we kept it simple, I got the kids in the kitchen to help. We started with some store bought sugar cookie dough. I died half bright green with food coloring and the other half more of a leafy green. I set in the fridge to chill for about 30 min. Once chilled I rolled out flat. I stacked the two greens on top of each other and then very carefully rolled them up. Once rolled I set them in the fridge to chill. Once chilled I used a serrated knife to carefully slice off 1/2 inch rounds. Bake at 350 degrees for 11 - 14 minutes and you have Heart of TeFiti cookies.

While the cookies were baking we got out some brown lunch bags and paint to create some pineapple popcorn bags. Just paint with yellow 3/4 of the way and the the last 1/4 paint green. Let dry and then add some lines with a sharpie to resemble a pineapple. Just add some popcorn and tie with some baker's twine. Once tied take scissors and create slits on the top of the bag to resemble a pineapple top. These were a  huge hit and super simple to create.

Setting up your movie screen is a piece of cake, we have done it several different ways from throwing a white sheet over our fence and stapling it in place to creating our own temporary screen using white fadeless paper. We found that the fadeless paper worked best to keep our screen smooth and wrinkle free. Just use some scrap pieces of wood we had some left over 1X2's that worked great, we dug a hole and sunk them into the ground. Nail a piece of wood across the bottom for support and you are ready to add your white fadeless paper. It works best if you staple it directly onto the wood. Viola you are ready for movie time!

We threw some blankets down on the grass and started the show, such a fun night for the kids and their friends! We watched our favorite sing along movie.....MOANA!
