Choose Kind

As we kick off celebrate kindness week I wanted to remind my students to choose kind.....two simple words, with a huge impact. Check out how we created a fun colorful bulletin board that will transition from Celebrate Kindness Week to Valentine's Day!

I got this project started by getting my board ready, recently I came up with this great teacher hack to add a strip of cork around my bulletin board. This is glued directly onto my wall. This added strip makes it so quick and easy to add multiple borders to my boards and displays.

I used a couple of my favorite new borders from Creative Teaching Press. I mixed the black and white swiss dots with the black and white stripe. I added the doodle dots on red border for a fun pop of color.

At the top of my bulletin board I used colorful red, pink and black and white polka dotted tissue paper fans from Oriental Trading Company.

My students enjoyed painting their paper hearts. I gave them different shades of reds and pinks.

 As they painted we talked about how our own hearts and feelings were a lot like the paper in front of us. They can be damaged easily by hurtful words just like our paper hearts can be easily torn or wrinkled. Each word can leave an impact on our friends and loved ones. As my students painted we brainstormed some positive things we could say to our friends and family.

   

I cut out the letters for our front board and added them to the artwork my students created. Viola!! A fun easy bulletin board that is perfect for Valentine's day!

During Kindness week we will be working on several writing activities from the Choose Kind writing kit. I will add these to the board above on top of the colorful hearts my students created.
